Overview for Tuesday, February 10, 2026

Commuters in the District should prepare for a complex travel day as a major pilgrimage event and multiple ongoing infrastructure projects intersect. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced significant rolling road closures to accommodate the "Walk for Peace," which will affect several major arteries in Northwest D.C. throughout the morning and afternoon hours.

Walk for Peace Rolling Closures

A group of Buddhist monks is expected to enter the District via the Chain Bridge around 8:00 a.m. MPD will conduct rolling closures along the following routes to ensure safety:

  • 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Inbound Chain Bridge, Inbound Canal Road NW (from Chain Bridge to Arizona Avenue), Arizona Avenue NW, and Nebraska Avenue NW toward American University.
  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Nebraska Avenue NW (from New Mexico Avenue to Ward Circle) and Massachusetts Avenue NW (from Ward Circle to Macomb Street).
  • 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Wisconsin Avenue NW (from the Washington National Cathedral to Massachusetts Avenue), Massachusetts Avenue NW (toward Sheridan Circle), and 23rd Street NW.

Motorists are advised to avoid these areas during the specified windows as traffic gridlock is anticipated in the Foggy Bottom and Cathedral Heights neighborhoods.

Infrastructure and Major Roadwork Alerts

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has several active work zones that will continue to impact travel times today:

  • I-295 and I-695: Expect lane shifts and potential overnight closures in Wards 6 and 8 for ongoing paving and bridge maintenance projects.
  • Connecticut Avenue NW: Service lanes remain closed from Q Street to Dupont Circle due to the deckover construction project.
  • Theodore Roosevelt Bridge: Ongoing traffic pattern changes remain in effect; drivers should follow posted signage for lane configurations.
  • Dalecarlia Parkway NW: Weekday lane closures are active for utility and road restoration work.

Public Transportation Updates

WMATA reports that most rail lines are running on a regular weekday schedule, though some station-specific alerts are in place:

  • Navy Yard-Ballpark Station: The Half Street entrance is closed for escalator replacement. Commuters must use the New Jersey Avenue entrance.
  • Bus Detours: Multiple Metrobus routes, particularly those serving Northwest D.C. and Foggy Bottom, may experience delays or temporary detours synchronized with the Walk for Peace rolling closures.
  • Judiciary Square: Construction continues at the north entrance; however, the station remains accessible via the south entrance.

Commuters are encouraged to use the Metro whenever possible to avoid surface-level congestion and to check real-time service apps before departing.
