Official City Notice Roundup: March 4, 2026

As the District transitions into the spring season, several city agencies have issued critical updates regarding public health, infrastructure maintenance, and municipal services. Residents are encouraged to review the following official notices and advisories active as of Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

DC Health Lifts Potomac River Recreational Advisory

The District Department of Health (DC Health) has officially lifted the recreational health advisory for the Potomac River, effective this week. Following the sewer main collapse on January 19, consistent water quality monitoring has confirmed that bacterial levels, including E. coli, have returned to safe federal standards for secondary recreational contact. While swimming remains prohibited in District waters without a permit, activities such as kayaking and rowing may resume. DC Health continues to coordinate with the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) to monitor water quality at ten locations across the Potomac and Anacostia rivers.

DPW Resumes Residential Street Sweeping

The Department of Public Works (DPW) has resumed its residential street sweeping program for the 2026 season. From now through March 13, the District is in a 'warning phase,' during which motorists parked in sweeping zones during restricted hours will receive warning notices rather than citations. Beginning Monday, March 16, full enforcement will commence, including $45 fines for violations. Residents are reminded to check posted signage for specific two-hour windows (typically 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) to ensure streets can be cleaned curb-to-curb.

Public Service Commission and Board Meetings

Several public bodies are holding sessions today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026:

  • Public Service Commission (PSC): An Open Commission Meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to discuss utility regulation and energy provider assessments. All regulated entities are also reminded that Annual Assessment Surveys must be submitted by April 1, 2026.
  • Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board: The board is in session from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to review licensing and enforcement matters.
  • State Board of Education (SBOE): A monthly working session will be held via livestream starting at 5:00 p.m.
  • Board of Veterinary Medicine: A virtual meeting regarding euthanasia regulations is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

DC Water Infrastructure Update

DC Water reports that emergency repairs on the Potomac Interceptor remain on schedule for completion by mid-March. Crews are currently applying geopolymer lining to reinforce the damaged sections of the pipe. Environmental restoration, including the removal of contaminated debris near the C&O Canal, continues during dry weather windows to prevent further runoff into the river system.

DC Streetcar Service Wind-Down

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) reminds commuters that the DC Streetcar is in its final month of operation. Service is scheduled to conclude permanently on March 31, 2026. Riders are encouraged to transition to alternative WMATA Metrobus routes, such as the D20, to ensure continued transit access along the H Street Corridor.
