Traffic Advisory: Rolling Road Closures for Walk for Peace Pilgrimage

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as the "Walk for Peace" pilgrimage enters the District. Residents and commuters should anticipate significant delays and rolling road closures throughout Northwest D.C. as participants travel from the Chain Bridge toward the Washington National Cathedral.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Closures will impact the inbound Chain Bridge, Canal Road NW (from Chain Bridge to Arizona Avenue), Arizona Avenue NW, and Loughboro Road/Nebraska Avenue NW near the American University campus.
  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Expect disruptions along Nebraska Avenue NW, Ward Circle, Massachusetts Avenue NW, Macomb Street NW, and Wisconsin Avenue NW.
  • 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Rolling closures will continue on Wisconsin Avenue NW from the Washington National Cathedral to Massachusetts Avenue NW, including Sheridan Circle and 23rd Street NW.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes. Additionally, George Washington University has announced that the University Student Center and Gelman Library will be restricted to GWorld tap access only starting at 5:00 p.m. this evening.

Public Health Notice: Measles Exposure Alert

DC Health is continuing to monitor potential measles exposures following confirmed cases linked to several large gatherings in late January. While the risk to the general public remains low for those who are vaccinated, health officials advise anyone who attended the following events to monitor for symptoms through the remainder of this week:

  • Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (January 21)
  • National March for Life Rally and Concert (January 23)
  • Catholic University of America, Garvey Hall (January 24–25)

Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash. Individuals who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised and suspect exposure should contact their healthcare provider or DC Health immediately. Do not visit a clinic or emergency room without calling ahead to prevent further transmission.

Service Update: Sanitation and Waste Collection

The Department of Public Works (DPW) confirms that regular trash and recycling collection schedules have resumed following recent winter weather. However, due to lingering icy conditions in several Northwest and Northeast alleyways, crews are continuing manual collection in certain zones. Residents are advised to leave their bins at the designated collection point until pickup is completed. If materials have not been collected within two days of your scheduled date, please report the missed service via the DC 311 mobile app or website.

City Operating Status and Public Meetings

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has announced that federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area are open today, February 10, under normal operating procedures. Local city government offices remain open as well. Notable public body meetings scheduled for today include the DC Real Estate Commission, which will convene at 10:00 a.m. at the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP).
