A fatal shooting in Northwest Washington triggers Amber Alert and multi-agency search

A woman was shot and killed in the Glover Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in an incident that also left a child wounded and prompted an Amber Alert after a toddler was taken from the scene, authorities said.

Police said officers were called at about 4:39 p.m. to the 4100 block of W Street NW, outside an apartment complex. At the scene, officers found an adult woman and a juvenile girl suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead after lifesaving efforts failed, while the girl was taken to a hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening.

Victim and suspect identified; police describe domestic-violence context

The victim was identified as 34-year-old Rayven Amuan Edwards of Northwest Washington. Investigators identified the suspect as 35-year-old Stephon Marquis Jeter, also of Northwest Washington. Police said detectives determined Jeter fled the scene in a black pickup truck with a 3-year-old boy, triggering an Amber Alert and a search that extended beyond the District.

Authorities said a second child, a juvenile boy, was located at the scene uninjured. The injured girl was reported shot in the arm.

Pursuit ends in Southeast; suspect found dead and child located safely

Police said the search for the pickup truck involved multiple jurisdictions and ended later that evening after a pursuit and crash in Southeast Washington. Jeter was found dead inside the vehicle from what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The 3-year-old child was not in the pickup truck when it was located. Police later found the boy safe with a relative, authorities said.

What investigators are still working to determine

Investigators have not publicly detailed the sequence of events leading up to the shooting beyond describing it as domestic in nature. Police have also not released additional information on a possible weapon recovery, potential prior calls for service at the address, or whether any prior court orders were in effect at the time of the incident.
