Gary Sinise and Lt. Dan Band set for March 29 Vietnam Veterans “Welcome Home” event in DC

A national commemoration centered on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Actor and veterans’ advocate Gary Sinise is scheduled to headline a major “Welcome Home” tribute for Vietnam War veterans on Sunday, March 29, 2026, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The program is planned to coincide with National Vietnam War Veterans Day, observed annually on March 29.
The public-facing centerpiece is a tribute concert near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial featuring Sinise with the Lt. Dan Band. Organizers have described the day as a large-scale recognition event aimed at publicly welcoming home those who served in Vietnam, many of whom are now in their 70s and 80s.
Procession on Constitution Avenue and an afternoon program
Plans for March 29 include a ceremonial “Welcome Walk” led by the Military District of Washington’s Army Field Band. Vietnam veterans from all service branches are invited to participate. The route is designed to bring participants in front of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, while the community is encouraged to line Constitution Avenue.
The concert portion is set to include additional performers and speakers. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Reserve officer and actor Rob Riggle is slated to serve as master of ceremonies, and country music artist Craig Morgan is also scheduled to perform.

In addition to the Mall-wide “Welcome Home” programming, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has posted an event listing for National Vietnam War Veterans Day at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Context: why March 29 is nationally significant
National Vietnam War Veterans Day was established in federal law in 2017 and is observed each year on March 29. The date marks the final withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Vietnam and the disestablishment of the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam in 1973.
The National Mall events are structured around two visible public elements: a walk down Constitution Avenue and a concert near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Attendance, registration, and logistics
Organizers have said no ticket is required for the public to attend the walk and observe along the route. Seating for a designated veterans’ section at the concert is expected to require advance registration for veterans and one guest, with additional spectators accommodated in general public areas. Complimentary shuttle transportation has been planned for registered veterans and their guests.
As with many large events on the National Mall, attendees should anticipate security screening and transportation impacts typical of major gatherings in the central Washington, D.C. corridor.
