What investigators say happened across three jurisdictions

A former officer of Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department is being investigated in connection with a series of alleged sexual assaults in Northern Virginia and two Maryland counties, with authorities saying the cases share a similar pattern of contact and reported victim incapacitation.

The suspect, Timothy Valentin, 30, is in custody in Virginia after an arrest in December 2025. He was later denied bond in January 2026. Law-enforcement agencies have said they are continuing to seek additional potential victims as the investigation spans Alexandria, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County.

Alleged method: dates, alcohol, and reported incapacitation

Investigators allege that Valentin approached women either through dating apps or in person, then sexually assaulted them after they became incapacitated from alcohol during dates. Police have also said he used the aliases “Rico” and “Teo” when interacting with victims.

Authorities have publicly linked the suspect to nearly a dozen assaults across a two-year period. In Virginia, he is charged in connection with four sexual assaults in Alexandria during 2025. In Maryland, police have said he is connected to six sexual assaults in Prince George’s County between 2024 and 2025.

Known charges in Virginia; Maryland charging decisions still pending

In Alexandria, the suspect faces multiple charges that include rape, sodomy, abduction, unlawful filming, and aggravated sexual battery, among other alleged offenses. Officials in Maryland have said additional charging announcements had not yet been made for Montgomery County and Prince George’s County at the time the multi-jurisdiction investigation was publicly described.

Authorities have also described at least one Montgomery County allegation: investigators say an assault occurred in Takoma Park in April 2025 after a night that began at Blue Sunday’s Bar & Grill in Bowie, Maryland, followed by travel to Society Restaurant & Lounge in Silver Spring.

Employment history and the scope of the inquiry

Police have said Valentin served as an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department from 2017 until 2022, when he resigned. The investigation now involves separate local and state systems in Virginia and Maryland, where prosecutors make independent decisions on whether to file charges and how to structure cases.

  • Virginia: charges filed in Alexandria tied to alleged assaults in 2025; suspect held in custody.
  • Maryland: investigators have described alleged incidents in Prince George’s County (2024–2025) and Montgomery County (including April 2025), with charging updates expected through local prosecutors.

Police have urged anyone who believes they may have had contact with the suspect—especially through dating contexts—or who may have relevant information to contact the appropriate local law-enforcement agency.

The suspect is presumed innocent. Investigators have said the inquiry remains active as they seek additional reports and corroborating evidence across jurisdictions.
