Official Notice: Modified Government Operations for January 30

Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced that the District of Columbia Government will operate on a modified schedule on Friday, January 30, 2026, due to a period of extended extreme cold. District government agencies will officially open to the public at 10:00 a.m. Non-essential employees who are eligible for telework are encouraged to coordinate with their supervisors, while essential employees are required to report at their regularly scheduled times. In contrast to the executive branch, the D.C. Courts have announced they will maintain a normal Level 1 operating status, with all personnel reporting to their primary work sites as established.

DC Public Schools and Charter Status

In response to the low temperatures and safety concerns for commuting students, DC Public Schools (DCPS) will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday morning. Families with students enrolled in public charter schools are advised to check directly with their individual institutions, as charter postures may vary based on local conditions and administrative decisions. School bus services will also adjust to the two-hour delay schedule.

Snow Emergency and Parking Restrictions

The District Department of Public Works (DPW) and the District Snow Team have extended the citywide Snow Emergency through 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 30. While the emergency is in effect, motorists are prohibited from parking on designated snow emergency routes to allow for continued clearing and salting operations. Vehicles found parked on these routes are subject to ticketing and towing. Residents can locate towed vehicles by contacting the Towed Vehicle Locator office at 202-541-6083.

The District’s hypothermia shelters remain open to ensure safe, warm environments for anyone experiencing homelessness.
