Extreme Cold Alert and Weekend Storm Watch
The primary concern for all travelers today is the Extreme Cold Alert, which has been extended through Friday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing, with wind chills making it feel significantly colder for those waiting on platforms or at bus stops. While road surfaces are currently dry, the National Weather Service has issued a preliminary warning for a major winter storm likely to hit the Mid-Atlantic this weekend, bringing heavy snow and dangerous ice starting Saturday. Major Roadway Impacts: I-395 and Clara Barton Parkway
Significant delays are expected on the I-395 HOV Bridge (also known as the Rochambeau Memorial Bridge). Additionally, an emergency sewer bypass project by DC Water has led to the closure of the right inbound lane of the Clara Barton Parkway, just east of the I-495 interchange. At the Bethesda station, construction continues on the new mezzanine for the future Purple Line connection, and the Judiciary Square north entrance remains under renovation.
