Emergency Traffic Advisory: 14th Street NW Northbound Closure

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and DC Water have issued an urgent traffic advisory for the downtown corridor. All northbound lanes of 14th Street NW between L Street and Thomas Circle are currently closed to all vehicular traffic. This emergency measure follows the discovery of an abandoned, century-old, brick-lined sewer tunnel beneath the roadway that poses an imminent risk of collapse. Engineering crews are currently on-site working to stabilize the area by filling the 42-inch tunnel with engineered material. The closure is expected to remain in effect through the end of the week. Northbound drivers are advised to utilize 13th Street or 15th Street as primary alternate routes, while southbound lanes remain unaffected.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure and Vaccination Warning

DC Health is investigating multiple confirmed cases of measles and has issued a public warning regarding potential exposure sites throughout the District. Residents and visitors who were present at the following locations during the specified windows should monitor for symptoms, which include high fever, cough, and a signature rash: the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (Jan 21), the National March for Life Rally and Concert (Jan 23), and various buildings at the Catholic University of America (Jan 24–25). Health officials emphasize that the virus can remain airborne for up to two hours. Vaccination remains the most effective defense, and residents are encouraged to verify their immunization status with their primary care providers.

DC Water Infrastructure Update: Potomac Interceptor Repairs

Maintenance operations continue along the Potomac Interceptor following a significant pipe rupture earlier this year near the Clara Barton Parkway. While crews have successfully implemented a bypass system to divert wastewater, DC Water reports that recent operational challenges and snowmelt have resulted in limited, contained overflows. Officials maintain that District drinking water remains safe and has not been impacted by these repairs. Monitoring of downstream water quality continues daily to ensure compliance with EPA standards.

Scheduled Municipal Meetings: Wednesday, February 11

Several high-level municipal board meetings are scheduled for today, Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Residents are encouraged to participate in the following sessions:

  • Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board: The board will convene for a regular session from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the ABCA headquarters.
  • DC Housing Authority Board: A monthly board meeting will be held virtually starting at 1:00 p.m. to discuss agency performance and upcoming housing initiatives.
