City Health and Infrastructure Update: February 15, 2026

Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure Investigation
DC Health is continuing its investigation into multiple confirmed cases of measles involving individuals who visited high-traffic locations in the District while contagious. Residents and visitors who were present at the following locations during late January and early February should remain vigilant for symptoms through the 21-day incubation period, which remains active for many through late February.
- Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception: Potential exposure occurred in late January.
- Children’s National Hospital: A confirmed exposure took place in the Emergency Department and Orthopedic Clinic on February 2, 2026, between 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.
- Transit Hubs: Potential exposure sites include Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Union Station, and specific segments of the Washington Metro Red and Yellow lines.
Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a characteristic rash. DC Health advises anyone who is unvaccinated or immunocompromised and believes they were exposed to contact their healthcare provider immediately. Individuals are urged to call ahead before visiting a medical facility to prevent further spread.
Infrastructure Alert: Emergency Closures on 14th Street NW
DC Water and transportation officials maintain emergency traffic restrictions on 14th Street NW. All northbound lanes between L Street NW and Thomas Circle remain subject to closure or heavy delays following the discovery of a structural risk involving an abandoned, century-old brick sewer tunnel. Engineering teams have been working to stabilize the roadway by filling the void with engineered material.
- Detours: Northbound drivers are advised to utilize 13th Street or 15th Street as alternate routes.
- Pedestrian Safety: Sidewalk access is being maintained where safe, though travelers should follow all posted signage.
- Southbound Traffic: Southbound lanes on 14th Street remain unaffected by this specific emergency measure.
Government Operations and Service Status
As of Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has designated the operating status for federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area as "Open." While today is a Sunday, normal operating procedures are in effect for essential personnel and scheduled services. Residents should note that there are no public events scheduled on Mayor Bowser’s official calendar for today.
Additionally, while Department of Public Works (DPW) sanitation collections saw minor disruptions earlier this month due to winter weather, regular schedules have largely resumed. Residents are encouraged to check for neighborhood-specific updates regarding alley clearance and secondary road maintenance.
